Back-to-back 3-point makes by Easton Bosanek and Crayton Macholan pulled the Blair boys basketball team within three points of the Class C1 No. 3 Wahoo Warriors during Saturday's fourth quarter.
“Let's go!” Bears assistant coach Matt Novak yelled, emboldening his defense to get a much-needed stop. “Let's go!”
Coach Kevin Scheef's Wahoo squad wouldn't have it, though. The Warriors scored and ultimately held off Class B's BHS at home, 65-55.
The 10-point loss dropped the Bears to 5-7 overall. They've lost four in a row after a 5-3 start.
Blair held a lead after 8 minutes, though. Sophomore Bo Meier went 5-for-5 from the foul line during the opening period and scored nine points altogether as coach Chris Whitwer's team led 19-16.
Bosanek knocked down a pair of 3s to start the second period, too, but Wahoo pulled even at 25-all with its own three-point possessions.
Still, Ben Holcomb's 3-pointer off of the glass gave BHS a 28-26 lead again.
Back-to-back Meier and Macholan baskets produced the Bears' 33-30 third-quarter advantage, too, but the lead didn't last. The Warriors held a 45-40 advantage after three periods and outscored Whitwer's team 20-15 during the fourth for the win — their 10th of the 2023-24 season.
Meier led BHS in defeat with 17 points as Bosanek scored 14. Holcomb notched 10 points, too.
Wahoo's Kyler Elliot, meanwhile, scored a game-high 20.
Blair next competes today against Lincoln Northwest. The home game tips off at approximately 7:15 p.m.
