Antlers win OT soccer match against Blair boys

Bears fall to 6-7 overall

The Blair and Elkhorn boys soccer teams went to overtime again.
Unlike their first matchup on April 8, though, Tuesday's game didn't end with a shootout. This time, the Antlers produced goals during the second and 15th minutes of extra time, winning 3-1 at home.
Back at Krantz Field earlier in the month, the Bears (6-7 overall) had topped EHS (8-5).
“We match up really well with Elkhorn,” BHS coach Curt Scott said.
Blair led Tuesday's loss for more than 65 minutes of game time. It scored during the ninth minute when senior Riley Wolff passed the ball ahead to sophomore Victor Hernandez, who scored it by the Elkhorn goalkeeper.
Ahead 1-0, the Bears' Quinn Baedke placed two shots on goal during the 19th minute. Tannon Bellamy appeared to score later during the first half against the Antlers, too, but referees claimed he was offside.
Still, BHS and goalkeeper Luke Donner held their lead until the 76th minute when Nick Pagliuca scored the equalizer with less than 4 minutes left in regulation.
“It looked like we had enough guys back,” Scott said. “Maybe there was some miscommunication between our center-backs, but I don't know that.”
As a result of the late goal, the match went to overtime with Elkhorn scoring twice for its eighth win of the season. Bears appeared to take the loss hard during the postgame huddle, well aware of the potential postseason ramifications of their fourth-straight defeat.
Though BHS was to play one last regular season game Wednesday at Columbus Scotus, it will soon compete during the Class B-4 Subdistrict Tournament. The Bears face Norfolk Lutheran/Norfolk Catholic on Saturday at 10 a.m. in South Sioux City. The winner faces the winner of a South Sioux City-Madison matchup.
