One weekend done, one to go.
Blair Basketball Club hosted its annual Hoopstock boys tournament last Saturday and Sunday at the Gardner-Hawks Center, and will welcome youth girls basketball teams back to the former home of the Dana College Vikings this weekend. Games will take place each day with three courts in play.
Last weekend, though, Blair teams secured top finishes during boys competition. The fifth-grade Purple squad took first in its division, topping the Glenwood Jr. Rams 41-34 and the Ashland Bluejays 30-28.
The third-grade Purple squad was 2-0, too, with wins against North Bend and Waverly.
A sixth-grade Blair-Lord team won its bracket Saturday as well, beating Jr. Rams Gold 49-35 in the finale.
Two more sixth-grade Blair teams participated, too, while the eighth-grade Purple team went 1-1. Blair Basketball Club's fifth-grade Black and White teams played games with the White squad besting the BBA Badgers 37-18.
The fourth-grade Purple team earned second with a 36-11 win against Wayne, while the second-grade Purple squad also claimed runner-up honors. A third-grade White squad went 0-2, too.
A pair of Arlington teams also participated in Hoopstock play during the first of two basketball weekends in Blair. The eighth-grade Eagles won their bracket with wins against LDNE and Cedar Bluffs, while the seventh-grade team was 1-1.
