The second-winningest season in Arlington High School girls basketball closed Friday at Adams Central.
The 21-5 Eagles dropped a 51-34 Class C1 district final matchup on the Patriots' home floor, falling one win shy of their first state tournament berth since 2001. Adams Central, meanwhile, improved to 20-5 with the win, advancing back to Lincoln where it finished as the C1 runner-up in 2023.
Sophomore Emme Timm led AHS in defeat, scoring 10 points with a 3-point make during the third period. Macy Wolf scored nine points, too, and Britt Nielsen had six.
Senior Austyn Flesner scored four points in defeat, while classmate Taylor Arp added three during her final basketball game as an Eagle. Valeria Carvajal notched a first-half, 2-point bucket, too.
Arlington trailed by just four points at the end of the first period, but went down by 10, 28-18, at halftime. Adams Central won the third quarter 13-7 before putting the game away with a 10-9 fourth.
The only Eagles team to earn more wins than this year's is the 1999-2000 squad, which went 23-3 and won the Class C1 title. The state-qualifying 2000-2001 team went 19-4 overall.

County swimmers set records at state
Washington County swimmers Jane Busboom, Ryleigh Schroeter and Jacob Hanson of Blair, and Arlington's Lizzie Meyer, earned finals opportunities Friday during the first day of swimming at the NSAA State Swimming & Diving Championships in Lincoln.
All four were apart of Fremont High School record-setting performances, too.
Both the girls' and boys' 400-yard relay teams set records and qualified for Saturday's championship finals at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Schroeter, Meyer, Busboom and FHS' Madelyn Buck clocked in at 3:35.72, setting the second-fastest time of the preliminary round.
Hanson, Elliot Vech, Zayne Keslar and Gabe Christ, meanwhile, earned sixth during their 400 free relay to earn a spot in the finals. They finished in 3:17.8.
Hanson will also compete in the 200 medley relay on Saturday, while Arlington's Dathan Hansen was apart of an 18th-place finish in the 200 free relay with Hanson, Micah Moore and Garrett Nielsen in his state debut.
Busboom, Charlotte Vech, Schroeter and Meyer earned sixth in the 200 medley relay during prelims and will compete Saturday, too. Meyer will contend for a medal with Buck, Alexis Rasmussen and Vech in the 200 free relay as well.
Individually, Busboom qualified for the finals of the both the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Schroeter broke her own school record and will contend for a top medal in the 100-yard butterfly Saturday.
The championship finals begin at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast by Nebraska Public Media.
