DISTRICT BASEBALL UPDATE: BHS, AHS fall in finals

Posted

The Arlington and Blair baseball teams fell short Friday during district finals matchups.
The Eagles lost 5-3 at Central City in the Class C District 3 championship game, while the Bears lost 5-2 at Omaha Gross in the B-4 tourney final. Fort Calhoun, however, lost Thursday in a Class C District 5 semifinal.
All three Washington County teams’ spring seasons are likely done, though Blair had an outside shot at a state wild card berth going into Friday’s slate of games. Losses by Platte Valley and Omaha Skutt may have eliminated the chance before official state brackets are released, though.
Ultimately, BHS (14-10 overall) went 1-1 in district play. The Bears lost to the Cougars, but bested Ralston 15-5 Thursday night.
Arlington (11-10) was 1-1, too, topping Maxwell-St. Pat’s on Thursday, 6-5.
Fort Calhoun (7-16) was 0-1 in Springfield, finishing its season with a 10-0 loss to Omaha Roncalli — which upset top-seeded Platteview on Friday for a state qualification.
