This fall was the first and last season for Blair High School senior Wrylee Osterhaus on the golf course.
“I did love it,” she said Oct. 4 after her last hole of the Class B-2 District Tournament at River Wilds Golf Club. “I enjoyed it.”
Led by Macy Schrad and the three-year softball player, the Bears finished sixth out of eight teams during the event.
“I changed up for senior year, and the team is awesome,” Osterhaus said. “I love everybody on it.
While BHS finished with 424 strokes after two days at River Wilds — play on Oct. 3 was suspended for more than 24 hours by rain — Omaha Duchesne won the B-2 Tournament with 342. Elkhorn North and Bennington finished with 352 and 392 swings, respectively, claiming the other two Class B state qualifications.
The Bears, meanwhile, closed out their season 32 swings shy of a trip to Scottsbluff for the NSAA Championships.
“Coach (Rachel) Brown's goal for us was to break 100,” Osterhaus said. “Didn't do that, but I think we all golfed really well. I'm proud of everyone.”
Schrad was the lone Blair player to finish out her round before storms rolled in Oct. 3, logging 102 strokes across 18 holes. She sunk par shots on both hole Nos. 3 and 7, and earned 15th overall.
Osterhaus, meanwhile, finished with 103 swings and tied for 19th. She finished even on the par-5 No. 6 hole, but also birdied No. 12.
Tessa Nicholson finished two holes with made par shots and tied for 25th. She had 108 strokes, Mackenzie Storjohann had 119 and a second Bears senior, Carrie Truhlsen, carded 110.
“It was a really good season overall and I wouldn't take anything back,” the 12th-grader said, noting how her team felt like a family this fall.
When play was all said and done, the Bears joined coach Brown at a table under the outdoor shelter at River Wilds, enjoying the final day of the season.
“Golf is something I plan to do for a very long time,” Osterahus said. “I'm very glad I decided to do it this year. It was kind of an intro to it.”
