PGA REACH Nebraska presented new clubs and push carts to coach Rachel Brown and the Blair High School girls golf program April 10 at BHS.
Nebraska PGA's Seth Scollard, Bethany Clark, Amber Bogle and Section President Dawn Neujahr attended the assembly, congratulating the Bears and encouraging students watching the presentation to play as well.
Brown applied for the equipment through the Club FORE Youth program, which was implemented in 2021 “with the goal of fully equipping ALL High School Girl's Golf programs in need of resources and equipment assistance,” according to a 2023 news entry on nebraskapga.com. Her team received six sets of Calloway clubs, six golf bags, six Sun Mountain push carts and three days of instruction with a PGA professional.
“I'm just overwhelmed and so grateful for this opportunity,” Brown told the gathering. “I remember sitting through that application and reading the questions, and just thinking about all of the carts that broke during meets this year and clubs we didn't have or just needed. So, I'm really excited and really grateful for this. Thank you.”
Scollard, Bogle and Neujahr all noted their desire to get more young people involved in golf, especially girls. Scollard and Neujahr also described the selection process that led them to BHS.
“Our goal is to get to all of the schools, but then we really look at, 'What is the program doing?' What is the coach doing to go above and beyond?'” Scollard said “So, kudos to Coach Brown.”
“It really does come down to how dedicated your coach is,” Neujahr added. “You guys got a good one here, so be thrilled with that.”
PGA REACH Nebraska hopes its stop through Blair leads to more Bears on future teams.
“I would encourage everybody else who isn't standing up here with the girls golf team, if you have an interest in golf, the school now has golf clubs for you to come out and try it,” Scollard told the gathered students. “Contact your coach here — your friends here — and say, 'Come on, let's go play some golf.'”
