Before they lost of pair of games to field and weather conditions, the Blair High School baseball team's losing streak to start the season reached four games Thursday in Springfield.
Preseason Class C No. 2 Platteview, who started 1-3 itself, scored five sixth-inning runs to beat coach John Roan's team, 6-1.
Down just 1-0 during the top of the sixth inning, though, BHS evened the score. J'Shawn Unger walked and stole second base before Lucas Matejka's groundout pushed him to third with two outs.
Nelson Kosch delivered in the pressure situation, singling to tie the score at 1-all.
As noted, the Trojans answered, taking what became their final margin of victory into the final inning. Brady Brown notched a two-out single during the seventh, but he was the only Bear to reach base in the frame.
The next day, Blair Activities Director Tyler Siecke reached out to Enterprise Media Group, explaining that Friday's game with Bennington was postponed due to “wet and sticky conditions.” Saturday's game was postponed, too, due to forecasted low temperatures.
The Bears, however, were scheduled to face Omaha Roncalli on Monday and will next compete 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Waverly. The ninth-ranked Vikings will visit Vets Field for the Eastern Midlands Conference matchup.
