Otte Blair 8th-graders win conference title

Basketball team went 10-1 overall

The Otte Blair Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team won its Eastern Midlands Conference title Monday, topping Elkhorn Ridge 58-46.
Cadence Field led the Bears with 33 points as they overcame a 24-21 halftime deficit to win on the road. Aftyn Sullivan added 12 points, Stevie Avila had eight, Beau Wendt scored three and Renn Dresden notched two, respectively.
The championship team, which is coached by Kelli Ray and Scott Flynn, went 10-1 this season with additional wins against Norris (40-28), Gretna Aspen Creek (29-18), Elkhorn Valley View (61-35), Elkhorn Middle School (39-25), Bennington (42-29), Elkhorn North Ridge (40-36), Waverly (46-30), Gretna (31-19) and Elkhorn Grandview (48-27). Otte Blair lost to Elkhorn Ridge in the teams' first meeting, 46-42, but overcame it in the finale.
Otte Activities Director Erin Field said the same Bears group won its seventh-grade league title in 2023, too.
