Abi Lundberg and Roslyn Solano earned singles victories Thursday at Stemmermann Park, but the Blair High School tennis team fell to Omaha Gross, 3-2.
The dual loss dropped the Bears' season record to 1-1. They previously defeated Platteview, 3-2, in their opener.
Lundberg claimed her win in No. 1 singles. The senior is 2-0 overall after the 8-1 victory against the Cougars' Kali Wonderlich.
Solano, meanwhile, beat Gross senior Allison Carroll in No. 3 singles play. Playing in her first scored varsity match of the season, the sophomore earned the matchup by a 9-7 tally.
Blair's Fiene Bakker, however, lost a competitive, 8-5 match in No. 2 singles. Leah Chance and Shelby Wolff also nearly pulled off a No. 2 doubles win, but lost 9-8 (7-4).
The Bears' Abby Leggott and Ally Sullivan dropped a close No. 1 doubles matchup, too, 8-5. Annemarie Proksel, Tailyn Anderson, Hadyn Ferguson, Ana Dasa and Kylie Harvey also competed during the matchup with the Cougars, but fell short.
The dual was originally scheduled to start at 3 p.m., but didn't start until later as Gross' arrival was delayed. The break, however, allowed coach David Christensen and BHS Activities Director Tyler Siecke to easily install a new net on the east court at Stemmermann Park.
The Bears next compete away from home, however. They play 4 p.m. today at South Sioux City in their first road trip of the season.
