Starting pitcher Dylan Swanson excelled on the mound, but Class B No. 10 Blair lost its season-opener Saturday at No. 4 Elkhorn, 2-1.
The Antlers (1-1 overall) didn't score until the bottom half of the seventh inning, winning on sophomore Caiden Severson's first varsity hit — a walk-off knock.
The Bears, meanwhile, took their 1-0 advantage during the top half of the seventh. Carter Saylor first drew a two-out walk before Tanner Jacobson delivered an RBI triple for BHS' first lead of the season.
After the starter threw six scoreless frames on 90 pitches, Lucas Matejka replaced Swanson on the mound for the bottom half of the last inning. Swanson finished with six strikeouts, while J'Shawn Unger and Jacobson both notched two hits at the plate.
The Antlers topped Blair in the junior varsity game, too, 10-2.
The Bears' start to the spring season was delayed by weather as games on Thursday and Friday were postponed. Both teams were scheduled to compete Monday against Omaha Skutt and again tonight at Omaha Concordia. The varsity game with the Mustangs starts at 4:30 p.m. on Orval Smith Memorial Field in Ralston.
