HOOPS UPDATE: Fort Calhoun boys finish 4th at state

The Fort Calhoun boys basketball team capped its first state tournament trip in 99 years Friday with a fourth-place finish in Class C1.
The Pioneers (21-7 overall) lost their third-place game to Kearney Catholic (27-2), 79-65, closing out its first state appearance since 1923 with a 1-2 record. FCHS beat top-seeded Wahoo 54-52 on Tuesday before Thursday's 48-46 semifinals loss to Auburn in overtime.
Sophomore Grayson Bouwman led coach TJ O'Connor's squad with 17 points against Kearney Catholic at Lincoln East High School, while Zane Schwarz had 14 and Glenn Hunter scored 11.
The Stars, however, went on a 26-2 run to start the second period, seizing control and winning the third-place trophy.
Fort Calhoun's 21 wins for the season are a school record.
