Pioneers compete in Nebraska City
The Fort Calhoun boys and girls wrestling teams made up a winter-weather postponement Monday in Nebraska City.
Coach LillyGossman's girls earned eighth during the Rumble in River Country, while coach Drew Welchert's boys were 1-3 during a dual tournament by the same name.
Madi Larrick led the Pioneers on the girls' side, taking second at 125 pounds. The 18-8 overall wrestler had two pins in 46 and 66 seconds, respectively, while also claiming a 35-second pin against South Sioux City's Valeria Gonzalez.
Tacey Belina placed in Nebraska City, too, taking fourth at 155 pounds. She was 1-2, besting Crete's Genesis Garay-Carpio by 2:28 pin.
On the boys' side, FCHS topped Platteview 48-35, but lost to Seward (60-19), Falls City (54-18) and the host Pioneers (46-37). Welchert's lineup was third in Pool A and finished second in the Silver Division.
Fred Altstadt put together a 4-0 tournament, securing three pins, including a 22-second fall against Nebraska City's Isaac Bruggeman at 150 pounds. He also claimed a 14-3 major decision from Seward's Jackson Holt.
Calhoun's Merritt and Presley Olberding added two wins apiece during the event, while Kasyn Storm, AJ Duros, Seth Waters and TJ DeMilt all added one each.
The FCHS girls start subdistrict competition today, while the boys wrestle Saturday at Lincoln High.

Bears qualify for state duals
After a season's worth of work, the Blair boys wrestling team is headed to the NSAA Class B Dual Wrestling Championships on Saturday in Kearney.
The sixth-seeded Bears will wrestle No. 3 Omaha Skutt first at 9 a.m. inside the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. The winner will face No. 2 Cozad or No. 7 Beatrice in the semifinals.
No. 1 Waverly, No. 8 York, No. 4 Gering and No. 5 Schuyler will contend for a finals spot on the opposite side of the bracket, too.
Coach Erich Warner's Bears are 18-7 in duals this season.
