Additional bleachers were delivered to the west end of the Washington County Fairgrounds on Sunday with the annual Mud Volleyball Tournament well underway.
Six mud-filled, soupy courts were filled by 28 coed teams for the Arlington event and they drew a crowd of onlookers. In the end, a volleyball squad named Rodayo Drive won the tourney title, besting Chase is Special in the finals.
Every town in Washington County was represented by a volleyball player in the tournament as were a number of communities beyond the county's borders. Players ranged in age from high school teenagers to athletes in their 30s, according to organizers.
Noticeably, some participants were willing to dive into the muddy waters for volleyballs, while others opted instead to stay on their feet. In both instances, players typically walked from the courts to a wash station at the conclusion of their matches.
