FRIDAY UPDATE: Softball season ends; Football teams play

Softball seasons at Blair and Arlington High Schools came to a close during the district finals round Friday, while three Washington County football teams played on two fields. The results are as follows.

BHS softball falls to Elkhorn
The fifth-seeded Blair High School softball team lost back-to-back home games to No. 12 Elkhorn on Friday, finishing as the Class B-5 District runner-up.
The Antlers won 7-2 in game No. 1 and 10-2 in No. 2 of the best-of-three state qualifier round. Ayden Dick and Tessa Villotta notched BHS RBIs during the first game, while Hallie Lewis hit a two-run homer for the Bears in the second.
The losses dropped coach Jennifer Fangmeier's team to 19-12, which is the record it ends the fall with.

AHS softball finishes year 15-13
Malcolm bested the Arlington softball team in back-to-back games to earn a Class C State Championships spot Friday.
The Eagles lost 12-0 and 16-5, finishing their season 15-13 and as the C-7 District runner-up. Arlington sluggers Hannah Stahlecker and Hailey Brenn hit homers in defeat.

Eagles top Pioneers in football
The Arlington football team improved to 2-5 at home Friday, beating visiting Fort Calhoun (1-6 overall) 22-3.
Eagles quarterback threw touchdown passes to Dustin Kirk and Nick Smith, while Smith added a fourth-quarter interception return for a touchdown to clinch the victory.
The Pioneers' Jake Seina made a 26-yard field goal during the third quarter.

Larsen sets BHS record in win
Senior Dex Larsen scored six touchdowns Friday as the Blair High School football team routed Omaha Gross 54-14.
The running back notched four first-half scores and two during the second, breaking his previous school record of five rushing touchdowns. He'd shared that now-broken record with Dalton Lewis, Jake Schany and Ryan Randall.
Nolan Osterhaus added a second-quarter touchdown reception from quarterback Morgan Rump, while Kaden Sears scored on a 49-yard run during the fourth as the Bears improved to 4-3.
