The Blair High School football team kicked off the season Friday with a 42-21 home loss.
The Norris Titans, ranked No. 8 in Class B by nebpreps.com, scored 24-straight points after claiming possession of the ball from the No. 5 Bears on a turnover late in the first half. The red zone interception call levied by officials was heavily questioned by BHS coaches as well as broadcasters on BSDN Live, which captured video footage of what appears to be the ball hitting the turf.
The Titans’ first offensive snap after the interception was a 15-yard touchdown run, which gave the visitors a 19-13 advantage going into halftime. Their lead reached as much as 23 points during the second half before Brock Templar scored on a 5-yard run during the fourth quarter.
The junior running back also scored the Bears’ first touchdown of the season in the first quarter, answering the Titans’ TD on the opening kickoff.
BHS senior Ethan Baessler scored a touchdown Friday as well, turning a Bode Soukup swing pass into a 60-yard jaunt down Krantz Field’s east sideline.
The 0-1 Bears next face Plattsmouth on the Blue Devils’ home turf. The game is 7 p.m. Aug. 25.
