The 3-16 Nebraska City Pioneers hung with the 15-4 Fort Calhoun Pioneers on Tuesday night, but they couldn't beat them.
Coach TJ O'Connor's FCHS boys basketball team held off its visitors in the end, 64-61. It led 14-10 after one period, 32-27 after two and 51-45 going into the final quarter.
Senior Grayson Bouwman led the victorious Pioneers with 24 points. The Morningside University recruit was 6-for-7 from the foul line during the fourth period, finishing 9-of-11 from the charity stripe for the game.
Calhoun's Adam Elofson scored 18 points, too, scoring seven apiece in the second and third periods. He made one 3-pointer, but six field goals inside the arc as well.
Kalan Fritch, meanwhile, led Nebraska City's upset chances with a team-best 17 points. The purple Pioneers fell short, though, dropping their 16th game of the 2023-24 campaign.
