The Arlington girls basketball team closed out its 1-2 Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament run Thursday in Valley.
The Eagles (4-13 overall) played a tight game and only lost to Douglas County West by four, 46-42, less than a week after losing to the Falcons by 10. Coach Luke Brenn's squad was in the conference bout until the end, but it was DCW that earned its 10th win of the season.
“I just told the girls before the game to go play hard and leave everything on the floor,” the coach said. “We played all four quarters. Missed a couple of free throws and layups that hurt, but we're getting better and that's all I can ask out of the girls.”
Taylor Arp scored a team-high 12 points for AHS, though Brenn said the competitive outing was a team effort. He noted his players' best efforts to contribute in their roles on the floor.
Kate Miller added eight points for Arlington as did freshman Britt Nielsen. Their team next competes 6 p.m. today when it hosts Washington County neighbor Fort Calhoun.
