BHS boys knock off Seward
Blair senior guard Crayton Macholan started with a half-court bank shot to end the first period Saturday and finished with 28 points in Seward.
His Bears' 65-51 win pushed their season record to 7-9, while the host Bluejays dropped to the same win-loss mark.
Macholan's make from beyond the midcourt line came at the close of a 14-8 first quarter for coach Chris Whitwer's team. Ben Holcomb had previously pushed BHS' lead to 11-8 with a drive through the lane, but his classmate's heave pushed the advantage out even further.
Then, during the second period, the visitors scored 16 more points with Holcomb, Aidan Slominski, Macholan and Bo Meier all finding the bottom of the net. Macholan free throws produced the Bears' first 10-point lead before Meier scored back-to-back hoops to make the advantage 14 points.
From there, Blair held off Seward.
The Bluejays cut the Bears' second-half lead to as little as four points during the fourth quarter, but Slominski's 3-point make in the final minutes made it 55-48. Macholan scored down the stretch, too, making his free throws to seal the win.
Easton Bosanek added 10 points for BHS, while Holcomb had 11.

Blair girls score season low in loss
The Blair High School girls basketball team scored a season-low 16 points Saturday at Class B No. 9 Seward.
The Bluejays won 51-16, improving to 11-7, while coach Matt Aschoff's team dropped to 7-9 in defeat. The Bears are just 1-6 in 2024 games.
Blair lost by 34, but trailed by just 12 at halftime, 22-10. Gueryn Kay's 3-pointer pulled coach Aschoff's team within 6-4 during the first period, but a Taytum Macholan 3 couldn't keep the Bluejays from outscoring BHS by eight points in the second. The Bears' Addie Sullivan — who made her return from injury — scored three points during the second 8 minutes, too.
Altogether, Macholan, Kay, Sullivan and Kaitlynn O'Neil all finished with three points, while Claire Anderson and Hayden Frink-Mathis tallied two apiece. Two of Blair's regularly contributing seniors did not play against Seward as both Leah Chance and Marin Sather watched the game from the team bench.
Ona Stutzman, meanwhile, scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Bluejays.
