The Waverly High School softball team upset Class B No. 8 Blair on Thursday, earning an eighth-inning walk-off victory.
The Vikings beat the Bears 6-5 to improve to 11-8, while coach Jennifer Fangmeier's squad fell to 14-8 in defeat. BHS is just 2-3 in its last five games.
The Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead during the top half of the first inning, but didn't score again until the seventh when they forced the Vikings into an eighth frame. Kaylei Denison, a Waverly pitcher, pushed across the game-winning run from there.
Senior Jerzie Janning led Blair with two RBIs, according to Waverly stat-keepers, while Tessa Villotta and Brooke Janning notched one apiece. Nessa McMillen had two hits.
Brooke Janning and Kalli Ulven combined for nine strikeouts from the pitching circle, too.
The Bears next play Saturday during a tournament at Lincoln's Doris Bair Softball Complex.
