The Blair High School golf team finished eighth out of 12 teams Tuesday during its season-opening tournament at Tiburon Golf Club.
Bears Mallory Stirek, Carrie Truhlsen, Mackenzie Storjohann, Addie Stirek and Tessa Nicholson posted 423 strokes during the Gretna Invite. They were eight swings behind seventh-place Omaha Marian and 10 ahead of Gretna's junior varsity lineup after 18 holes.
The varsity Dragons, meanwhile, won their home tourney with 361 strokes. Elkhorn South was second with 363 and Omaha Westside was third with 366. The Warriors' Madie Schlegel shot the day's low score — 81.
Mallory Stirek, meanwhile, led coach Ross Udey's squad with 94 swings. The three-time Class B state qualifier was 12th overall, finishing with two par putts over the first round of her senior season.
Truhlsen, meanwhile, shot a 104 for 28th out of 58 golfers. She shot par on the 445-yard Mako No. 9 hole.
Storjohann added her own par make on the 135-yard Great White No. 3 hole, finishing with 110 swings overall. Addie Stirek and Tessa Nicholson added 115- and 126-stroke scores, respectively.
A highlight hole for Addie Stirek was the Great White No. 9. The Blair Bear took an unconventional route to the green, hitting her ball out of the way to the left of the water hazard instead of over it. She then sent her third shot into the bunker, but salvaged it and one-putted for a bogey.
“Sometimes things just work out,” she said, smiling.
BHS played again Wednesday at Indian Creek Golf Course and next competes Wednesday at Hilltop Country Club in Wahoo.
