The Waverly boys soccer team scored three goals in short order to start the second half Monday, but the Blair Bears came back to win on the road.
BHS led 2-0 halftime and fell behind 3-2 about 10 minutes of game time later, but earned a 4-3 victory. Coach Curt Scott's team is 2-0 with its second-straight Eastern Midlands Conference victory.
“The boys just found a way to make it happen and not let our chances to finish go to waste in the second half,” he said.
Quinn Baedke and Sakuto Yamada scored two goals apiece, pushing their season totals to three each. Baedke booted the ball off of a Lincoln Northwest player for an own goal in the season opener, too.
Goalkeeper Luke Donner, meanwhile, earned his second victory between the posts, picking up the ball just as time expired during a back-and-forth, five-goal second half.
The Bears next host The Platte — a combined team of Platteview and Plattsmouth players — on Friday at Krantz Field. The varsity match starts at 7 p.m. after a 5:30 junior varsity matchup.
