Wow.
When I decided to take over the Nannen & Harte Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week selection process, I forgot to take into account just how difficult some weeks would be. Softball pitching standouts Kiersten Taylor of Arlington, Blair's Kalli Ulven and Fort Calhoun Pioneer Anna Taylor all did plenty to deserve the overall Washington County Athlete of the Week designation.
Kiersten Taylor, for example, started her season with an RBI triple during the very first inning of her senior campaign.
At the same time, Anna Taylor helped lead her Pioneers to a huge North Bend Central Invite title.
Congrats to coach Many Taylor's team, by the way.
But, ultimately, I went with Ulven, who finished the first weekend of the season with a homer, a 1.75 ERA and the best pitching victory of the group. The Blair Bear led her team past Class A No. 8 Millard South from the pitching circle Saturday morning.
In summation, I want to applaud our first three Athletes of the Week of the 2022 fall season. Taylor, Taylor and Ulven represented their schools admirably and are just getting started.
