The Arlington Junior Legion baseball team reached the final four of the Ralph Bishop League Tournament on Tuesday, besting Pender 5-4.
After a run-rule victory against Tekamah-Herman in the opener, the Eagles moved to 2-0 with pitcher Nick Smith throwing a three-strikeout complete game. He also bat 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Dustin Kirk also tallied two hits, registering a double and an RBI. Trevor Denker was 1-for-2, but scored three runs.
Two days earlier, the Eagles beat Tekamah-Herman 8-0 in Pender. Tyler Ott threw all five innings, allowing just one hit. He struck out four batters.
Arlington was error free in the shutout.
Denker, meanwhile, logged two hits with a double to lead the Eagles offense. Smith added a double and a triple, while both Dalton Newcomer and Andrew Misfeldt notched two hits apiece. Braden Monke scored two runs.
Post 71 was set to play its semifinals game Thursday. With a win, it would play Saturday in the 5 p.m. championship game in Pierce. With a loss, it would play at noon in the third-place contest.
Seniors fall in opener
The Arlington Senior Legion baseball team, meanwhile, lost its Ralph Bishop League opener Sunday, 9-5.
The Eagles led Hooper/Scribner 3-0 after three innings, but lost after their opposition scored four runs in the sixth frame. Tanner Pittman threw 3 1/3 innings, Braden Rump three innings and Zach Vanek 2/3 in defeat.
Rump also hit a triple in the RBL tourney game, while Denker finished with two hits. Five Arlington baserunners scored runs in the loss.
