It was tough sailing for the Tekamah-Herman boys basketball team from its first offensive possession on.
Six-foot-5 Arlington Eagle Aiden Foreman unleashed a massive block at the rim and the visiting team's defensive effort continued on as it earned a 53-22 win against the Tigers. Coach Tyler Spitser's AHS squad held its host to just two points in the first period, only nine through one half and just 12 through three quarters during the victory — its fourth in the first six games of the season.
“Just to have high intensity and communicate,” junior guard Logan Kaup said of the Eagles' keys to the game. “Don't let them get comfortable.”
If Tekamah ever did, it was with a large deficit. The Eagles led by 12 after just 8 minutes and by 21 after 16.
“We work well together,” Kaup said of his team's strengths. “I think we know what everyone is doing before they do it.”
He scored 11 points, while Foreman led Arlington with 17 against the Tigers. Dustin Kirk and Barrett Nielsen added seven points apiece, while Frankie Rosenbalm had six and Nick Smith had five in the Eagles' first game without the services of injured starter Colby Grefe.
Coach Spitser's team now enters the holiday break with a 4-2 record, aided by a notably defensive effort against Tekamah, which had scored more than 60 points in four of its six games entering Saturday's.
“I think our communication is really starting to come, especially on defense,” Kaup said. “I think that helps us do what we did tonight.”
