The Class C1 No. 9 Fort Calhoun boys basketball team padded its postseason resume Friday, besting 15-8 North Bend Central on the road, 50-33.
The 17-point victory pushed the Pioneers' season record to 18-4 before today's Class C1 Subdistrict 3 Tournament opener against Douglas County West. The 7:15 p.m. first-round game will be contested at the four-team tourney's top seed, Omaha Concordia.
First, though, coach TJ O'Connor's hoops team — which was ninth in the C1 wild card standings as of Friday — completed its regular season schedule in North Bend. FCHS led 20-7 after the first period and 28-10 after two.
Grayson Bouwman, a sophomore, led the Pioneers with 15 points, while senior Zane Schwarz added 14. The 12th-grade guard hit a career milestone during the effort, crossing the 1,000-point mark.
Carsen Schwarz, Zane's brother, added 11 points, too.
Kyler Hellbusch scored 15 in defeat for the Tigers.
