2022-23 Athletes of the Week, Part II

Bouwman, Fuehrer and Baessler excel on the field

Posted

Week No. 2 was just as good as the first.

The second 2022-23 Nannen & Harte Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week trio is Grayson Bouwman of Fort Calhoun, Rylee Fuehrer of Arlington and Blair's Ethan Baessler. Each school's standout produced in the stats columns and delivered game-winning performances.

Bouwman, Fuehrer and Baessler are their schools' Athletes of the Week. One will represent Washington County in the week's video interview, but which one?

I'll let you know Wednesday here  on enterprisepub.com/sports.

Grayson Bouwman, Fort Calhoun football

It was a tough decision between the quarterback who threw the ball, Austin Welchert, and the receiver himself, but Bouwman is the Athlete of the Week  for the school record he set. The Pioneer caught seven passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns, but also intercepted a pass defensively. The 228 yards are a single-game school mark.

Rylee Fuehrer, Arlington softball

Fuehrer produced during all three of the Eagles' games at a West Point tournament over the weekend, claiming Athlete of the Week status. The infielder notched the game-winning RBI against Ponca, struck out six batters and beat South Sioux City from the pitching circle, and was 2-for-2 against Wahoo Neumann.

Ethan Baessler, Blair football

Like Bouwman, Baessler showed up and showed out on both sides of the ball as the Bears blasted Plattsmouth at home. BHS' Athlete of the week ran nine times for 128 yards and a touchdown, but also intercepted a Devils pass. His 76-yard touchdown run was a highlight, for sure.

Thanks to all those who reached out last week in response to the new Athlete of the Week format. Thanks, too, for sharing those posts all over social media, making sure these Washington County kids' efforts are celebrated. Let's do it again!
