The start of the 2022-2023 school year brings with it the return of the Nannen & Harte Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week.
This year, however, Enterprise Media Group is taking a new approach to recognizing and spreading the word about Washington County's athletic standouts. Each Sunday — or, in this case, Monday — I'll post a story online detailing the efforts of three Athletes of the Week from each school — Arlington, Blair and Fort Calhoun.
From those athletes, I'll then select an overall Washington County Athlete of the Week, which will be revealed in our traditional Nannen & Harte PT Video Interview. Those Athlete of the Week interviews will be posted each Wednesday provided there aren't any scheduling conflicts.
I decided this would be the best way to select interviewees going forward based on the feedback I received last school year.
Now, should we get started? Here's why Anna Taylor, Kiersten Taylor and Kalli Ulven are this week's Athelte of the Week!
Anna Taylor, Fort Calhoun: The sophomore softball standout pushed her team to a 3-1 start and the North Bend Central Invite title with two pitching wins and 22 strikeouts. She also smashed a home run and had five total RBIs at the plate.
Kiersten Taylor, Arlington: The senior pitcher also picked up two wins, finishing with 17 Ks as the Eagles started 2-1 in Wayne. She hit three doubles, a triple and finished with three RBIs forthe week.
Kalli Ulven, Blair: The Bears' pitcher produced two pitching wins last week, including one eight-strikeout effort against top-10 ranked Millard South. She finished the first week of the season with 19 strikeouts and a 1.75 ERA, but also hit a homer against Gretna.
Please share this story with friends and family, spreading news of these athletes' success far and wide. Thank you.
