NSAA Board votes during August meeting
Multiple votes took place Aug. 17 during the August NSAA Board of Directors meeting.
The board — Kathi Wieskamp, Dana Wiseman, Thomas Lee, Dr. Bob Reznicek, Dr. Jon Cerny, Ryan Ruhl, Bob Drews and Dr. Troy Unzicker — unanimously voted for 14 NFHS weight classes in girls wrestling, while also expanding the number of state qualifiers to 16 per weight class. The Omaha World-Herald reports that the girls' state meet is expanding to three days in conjunction with the boys championships at the CHI Health Center.
Washington County schools recently approved the addition of girls wrestling teams as the NSAA sanctioned the sport and hosted its first championships this past February.
In addition, the NSAA Board voted unanimously to approve an increase in officials and judges' postseason pay. It also is permitting Lincoln Pius X, Omaha Buena Vista and Omaha Westview to opt up to Class A in all sports except football for the 2022-2023 school year. Blair plays at both new Omaha schools in football on Sept. 2 and Oct. 14, respectively.

Lincoln Northwest joins EMC
Lincoln Northwest High School started its first season of Eastern Midlands Conference (EMC) competition Thursday with a softball game against Elkhorn North and a golf invitational.
The first-year Falcons will first meet Blair — a longtime member of the EMC — today at the Doris Bair Softball Complex. The varsity softball game starts at 6 p.m.
Another new Lincoln school, Standing Bear High, expects to join the EMC in 2023.
The Hastings Tribune also reported in June that Hastings Public Schools has interest in joining the conference.
