A lot of Arlington High School softball players hit the ball Thursday against the Cass Wildcats.
It was only senior Kiersten Taylor, however, who cleared the Two Rivers Sports Complex fence during a 14-4 Eagles victory.
“I think it was just the energy,” she said after homering and claiming the pitching win. “We're an on-and-off team sometimes, so, I think, just everyone being encouraging today really paid off.”
Coach Janelle Lorsch's team scored seven runs over the first three innings and then seven more during the game-ending fourth. All of AHS' scoring led to a lot of dugout celebrations.
“Everyone's just really hype and we're hitting each other on the back,” Taylor said, describing the scene. “It's just a different place to be.”
In total, Arlington's Cadie Robinson (two), Sydney Magnino (one), Rylee Fuehrer (two), Emery McIntosh (one), Tessa Spivey (one), Taylor (two), Bailey Taylor (two) and Britt Nielsen (one) notched RBIs against Cass.
“I think tonight was the most we've ever played like a team,” Kiersten Taylor said. “And I think it's only going to get better.”

No. 2 Neumann tops FCHS
Fort Calhoun answered Wahoo Neumann's six-run second inning with two of its own in the third, but the second-ranked team in Class C was too much Thursday night.
The Cavaliers hosted and beat the Pioneers (5-4 overall), 11-3.
FCHS' Sam Brewer and Anna Taylor plated their team's first two runs with a sacrifice and single, respectively. Adriana Hernandez then tallied a fourth-inning sacrifice to push the Pioneers' run total to three in defeat.
