The Arlington Senior Legion baseball team beat David City in just 65 minutes June 14 at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
After a week without a game, the Post 71 Eagles jumped out to a fast start, scoring three runs in the first inning and topping their visitors by a five-inning run-rule, 8-0.
“That's the fastest Senior Legion game I've ever been a part of,” said winning pitcher Tyler Ott.
He shut out David City across five frames, while his team put away the win with five runs in the decisive fifth. Dalton Newcomer doubled after a leadoff flyout before Kaden Pittman plated him with an RBI single.
From there, Trevor Denker dropped another RBI single in front of the David City right fielder before scoring himself on Blaine Vogt's slow-rolling infield hit.
The Eagles eventually reached eight runs and celebrated the fifth victory of their summer season.
“I think we just had a good attitude,” Ott said. “Ready to get back into baseball and get back into these games.”
Arlington was set to play again Friday in Wakefield, but the game was canceled due to the weather conditions. The Post 71 Juniors, however, produced a 10-6 victory with the pitching staff combining for a one-hitter. Jackson Stosich didn't allow a hit across 4 2/3 innings.
Dallin Franzluebbers and Luke Sharp, meanwhile, led the Eagles' offensive effort. Franzluebbers was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Sharp went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.
Both Arlington teams were scheduled to host Wayne on Monday and will compete at home again Wednesday against Ponca. The Junior Legion game begins at 5:30 p.m.
