Tyler Siecke officially filled his role as the Blair High School Activities Director this summer.
The former Omaha Burke Dean of Students and Assistant Activities Director, however, has put in work for months. He started attending Eastern Midlands Conference (EMC) meetings in January after his Blair School Board approval.
“It's an unbelievable conference,” Siecke said, seated in his new office last week. “I mean, top to bottom, virtually in every sport.”
The A.D., who takes over duties from Blair's Tom Anderson, will soon see that competition up close when fall activities begin in August.
“I really believe that iron sharpens iron,” Siecke said. “And in the EMC there's a lot of iron sharpening going on.”
In the early stages of his work at BHS, the activities director is setting schedules and getting to know the people he works with.
“I actually was in here quite a bit and working at home in June, getting the schedules fixed and updated,” he said. “Fall schedules are done now.”
Siecke knows a lot, but will continue to learn how everything works within his new environment.
“I don't know what I don't know yet,” the former Omaha Burke basketball coach said, knowing full well he'll find out. He's a big believer in people and is excited to continue to contribute to the work of those around him.
“In this role, it's more, 'Where do I fit in to help the coaches, help the sponsors,” Siecke said.
He's assimilating to Blair, but also sharing his own experiences to help build programs at his new school.
When August comes, Siecke will further introduce himself to his new community. He'll be far from the only change around the school, though. For sports fans, Krantz Field's transformation will be a highlight.
Siecke, himself, is looking forward to seeing the new field turf and concession stand in action.
“I'm excited for people to be able to see the common spaces and new spots that are being built,” he said from his office at BHS.
