Margaret Mercedes Arp, 96, of Fremont, Nebraska, passed away Monday, June 1, 2026, at Nye Square in Fremont. She was born October 6, 1929, in Sidney, NE, to Charles Benton and Margaret Martha (Treinen) Mathews.
Margaret grew up in Sidney and graduated from St. Patrick's Academy in Sidney. In 1958 she moved to Fremont. She worked for 20 years with AT&T; 19 of those years she was at the Micro-Wave Tower northwest of North Bend, NE, and 1 year in Kansas City. In 1983 she moved to Kennard, NE, and stayed there until 1991, when she came back to Fremont. She married Albert A. Arp on July 15, 1983, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard, NE. He preceded her in death September 6, 1993.
Margaret was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Fremont Area Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 200 of Fremont. She volunteered at the Fremont Low Income Ministry and was very active in her church.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith (Bill) Pfeifer of Albuquerque, NM, and Janis Mathews of Camino, CA; son, David (Mary) Rezac of Ames, NE; grandchildren, David (Tammy) Teutsch, Michael (Naomi) Teutsch, Bryan (Dina) Pfeifer, Abran Mathews, Louis Kitchen, Jeremiah Rezac and Mikala Rezac; great-grandchildren, Alexis Teutsch, Haylee Teutsch (Nick Zakrzewski), Amber Teutsch, Micah Teutsch (Trista), John Teutsch, Shianne (Jarod) Cox, Chase R.W. Pfeifer, Makenzie, Jonah, Macy, Mason and Beau Rezac; and great-great-grandchildren, Colton and Kinlee Teutsch, and Jeremiah, Karissa and Jaden Cox.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Arp; son, Joseph C. Rezac; sister, Mary Sanders; and three brothers, Daniel, Harold and Charles Mathews.
A Celebration of Margaret's Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Pastor Al Duminy of Sinai Lutheran Church will officiate. Private interment will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
