Janice (Miss Jan) Farrell, of Gulfport, Miss., passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2021, after a month-long battle with an illness.
Born Jan. 6, 1945, to Emil and Pearl Block in Sisseton, S.D., she was the wife of Paul D. Farrell (USN retired). The couple met in Cavour, S.D., traveled the U.S. and abroad during his career and settled in Gulfport. She was active in the VFW, Military Order of the Cootie Auxiliary, Red Hat Society and volunteered with Toys for Tots. Her favorite pastime was bingo with her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Farrell; infant daughter, Holly Marie Farrell; parents Emil and Pearl Block; infant sister, Geraldine; brothers, Rodney and Jim Block.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Gardner (John); son, Patrick Farrell (Malinda); grandson, Ron Paul Beaver (Brittane); and granddaughters, Hillary Thompson (Jeremy), Shelbie Farrell (fiancé Colby Hartford), and Alyssa Farrell (fiancé Ian Buker); great-grandchildren, Abigail Shaw, Lilith Beaver, Layney Thompson, Julian Thompson, Hunter Thompson and Asher Hartford; siblings, Emily Nappolini (Louie), Lois Kuhr (Tim), Roger Block (Sharon), Corinne Gearhart, (Terry Jacobsen), Robin Henderson (Tom), and Michael Block (Stacey Reynolds); nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Mrs. Farrell will be laid to rest with her husband in the Biloxi National Cemetery. The memorial service is postponed at this time.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and/or The American Red Cross.
