Helen Booton, 88

Helen Booton, age 88, passed into her heavenly rest on April 21, 2024. in Omaha, Neb. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Blair.

Helen was born to Frank and Edna Gunsolley of Plattsmouth, Neb., as one of eight children. She attended Plattsmouth schools and graduated from Plattsmouth High School where “Gunny," as she was known, made many life-long friends. Helen met her beloved Bill in Plattsmouth, and were married on Jan. 9, 1955, they were together until his passing in June of 2023. Helen’s favorite job was secretary to accountants in Plattsmouth that required typing large accounting ledgers with great accuracy.

Helen was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church where she had many friends and was involved in many activities, including winning the chili cookoff one year.

Helen adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a great cook, and nothing gave her more pleasure than to cook for her family. Favorites were her special sloppy joes, brownies, chocolate cream pie and custard when the grandkids were under the weather. Nothing bad ever came out of her kitchen.

Helen was also passionate about her chicken collection. She had loved chickens from the time she was a child and had many figurines, tea towels, pictures and such in her house until Bill finally said, no more chickens!

Helen is survived by her daughter Kathleen Booton of Blair; sisters: Sharon (Marty) Griffin and Shirley (Bob) Masten; daughters-in-law: Melanie Booton and Sue Valker; sister-in-law Barbara Chrisman; grandchildren: Dreyson (Jillian) Solano, Aubryna Booton, Ciaran (Adolph) Overstreet, Claire Booton (Barrett Foley) and Parker Booton; great grandchildren: Allorah and Roslyn Solano; Malia and Landon Overstreet and Jermal Clark; many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Booton; sons: Steven and Timothy Booton; sisters: Betty Bethards, Ruby Nocita, Frances Perrellet and Linda Gunsolley; brother Willard Gunsolley; grandson Berek Solano.
