HS Softball Roundup: AHS beats Syracuse by run rule

No. 3 Bears win, Calhoun loses

The Arlington High School softball team beat Syracuse by run rule Tuesday at the Two Rivers Sports Complex, scoring six of its 10 runs on Rocket miscues.
The Eagles tallied four runs on wild pitches and passed balls, and two more on errors in the field of play during the 10-0 victory.
“You've got to be aggressive and you've got to be positive,” AHS senior Emery McIntosh said when asked the keys to base running. “You've got to own that steal you're taking, that slide you're taking.”
Coach Janelle Lorsch's lineup took a 1-0 lead during the first inning with Hannah Stahlecker's sac fly. Rylee Fuehrer, Cadie Robinson and Stahlecker added RBIs as the game went on, too.
But six different Eagles also scored on miscues. Tessa Spivey, McIntosh, winning pitcher Kiersten Taylor and Stahlecker scored on pitches to the backstop, while Britt Nielsen and Jaydin Allen reached home plate on errors.
McIntosh hit into one of those run-scoring errors. She said team chemistry and “work-hard Wednesday” practices have played into the Eagles' three-game win streak in which they've outscored their opposition 27-4.
On Tuesday, though, heads-up base running was just as important as anything else.
“Being aggressive on that basepath is just something we practice,” McIntosh said.
Arlington was scheduled to play West Point GACC on Thursday before its home tournament Saturday. The Eagles face North Bend Central first Saturday at 9 a.m. before an 11 a.m. game against Tekamah-Herman and a 1 p.m. bout with Columbus Lakeview at the Two Rivers Sports Complex.
