Hazel Ann (McKinnis) Adams was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Tekamah, to Clarence and
Ruth (Marr) McKinnis. As a young girl she traveled out of state to work with her family pulling
potatoes in North Dakota and baby sitting on military bases in Texas.
After high school she married Bernard Adams in Rising City. Bernard was employed by
Lyman Richey Sand & Gravel out of Omaha. They worked their way across Nebraska, building
roads and staying in trailer parks until they settled in Bridgeport in the summer of 1953. Along
with raising four children, Hazel worked many jobs including Midwec Corporation in Oshkosh
followed by many years at Buns Drugs and Bergs Gambles in Bridgeport.
Hazel always enjoyed helping people in need and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
She loved to cook for family and friends, and it was always delicious. Traveling was probably
her favorite pastime, visiting family and seeing new places like Hawaii, Nova Scotia, Italy,
Florida and a close favorite, Deadwood, S.D.
Hazel was a member and follower of God at the Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport.
She is survived by her four children Vickie (Larry) VanDrunen of Argyle, Texas, Diane (John)
Jensen of Herman, Wayne (Deb) Adams of Bridgeport and Terri (Terry) Green of Bridgeport;
10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, many wonderful
friends and brother Leroy McKinnis of Scottsbluff.
Preceding Hazel in death were her parents; husband of 64 years Bernard; sister Loraine;
brother Clair and two grandchildren.
