A nine-run top of the fifth inning all but sealed up Omaha Duchesne/Roncalli's win over the Fort Calhoun High School softball team Tuesday night.
The host Pioneers pulled within 3-1 during the third inning, but dropped to 5-5 this season at the end of five frames. The road team won by run-rule, 12-2.
FCHS produced its runs during the third and fifth innings. First, Kaylee Taylor singled and Izzy Greenough walked to set up Kaitlyn Welchert's RBI single.
Then, during the fifth frame, it was Welchert who led off for the Pioneers. She doubled and moved to third base on Sam Brewer's groundout before Anna Taylor notched her own RBI single in defeat.
Fort Calhoun was scheduled to play Douglas County West on Thursday and next competes Tuesday at Omaha Mercy.
