Nineteen boys from Washington County schools will compete next Thursday through Saturday during the NSAA State Wrestling Championships in Omaha.
Altogether, eight Blair Bears, seven Fort Calhoun Pioneers and four Arlington Eagles secured their state qualifications during district competition Saturday and will next compete at the CHI Health Center. The Bears, notably, earned runner-up honors during the B-3 District Tournament on their home mats.
BHS’ Hudson Loges and Blaise Baughman won district titles, while second-place Cornez Tucker Jr. also earned his state qualification via semifinals victory. Tannon Bellamy, Jaxon Logan, Carson Faue, Wyatt Loftis and Griffin Rosterman won consolation semifinal matches to advance, too.
In Crete during the Class B-1 District Tournament, FCHS’ Alex Schuler won his weight class. Merritt Olberding was second in his, while Lucas DeMilt, Presley Olberding, Levi Lasher, TJ DeMilt and Ray Caruso also qualified for state.
The Pioneers finished fourth during the tourney overall.
Arlington was 10th in Malcolm during the C-1 District Tournament. Jake Flesner, Braxton Soll, Ben Flesner and Tate Johannes all earned fourth-place results to qualify for state there.
Class B and C state competition starts 3 p.m. Thursday in Omaha. The NSAA State Girls Wrestling Championships, however, begin 4 p.m. Tuesday at the CHI Health Center with 14 Washington County wrestlers set to take part.
