Charles Steven Herron, age 76 of Blair, passed away Dec. 15, 2023 at CHI Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Memorial Services will be held at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023 at 2 p.m. Burial at Omaha National Cemetery will be held at a later date, and attended by immediate family.

Steve was born on Aug. 2, 1947 in Moberly, Mo. He was raised by Charles Wilber and Helen Corrine Herron. 

He was a high school graduate of Blair High School in 1965. After graduation, he entered the Air Force, stationed in Michigan, Florida and main base in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. After the military, he completed two years of community college, studying accounting.

Steve married Christine Campbell on Dec. 11, 1972. He worked at Drake-Williams Steel Company in Omaha, Neb., spending the majority of his career as a Foreman and President of the Steel Workers Union. 

Steve was an avid fisherman, and loved his vegetable garden. He was his children's and grandchildren’s biggest fan of all activities and sports. His addiction to crossword puzzles and the "Harry Potter" series was impressive. 

Steve was preceded in death by parents Charles “Wilber” and Helen Herron, father-in-law and best friend Howard Campbell and mother-in-law Anne Campbell.

He is survived by wife Chris Herron, daughters Carie Busboom (Rob) and Abbie Thompson (Brian), sister Carol Shotwell, as well as grandchildren Jane Busboom, Quinn Thompson, Maren Thompson, Colin Busboom and Brantley Thompson.
