Dawson Fricke earned the Blair Bears' top finish Thursday during the Lincoln North Star Cross-Country Invite at Pioneers Park.
The senior took 10th in the boys' race, clocking in at 17:03.56. His team was ninth in the standings, while the BHS girls took 10th.
Lincoln Southwest, meanwhile, swept the team titles during the predominately Class A event.
“For Dawson to run in a Class A meet and place in the top 10 is a credit to how much work he’s put in over the last year,” Blair coach Carson Norine said. “He’s a phenomenal runner.”
Fricke was followed in the boys' race by Ted Lueders (38th), Zac Keeling (41st), Caleb Funk (68th), Isaac Field (72nd) and Zachary Anderson (75th). Lueders' time was 17:55.54, while Keeling finished in 18:01.14.
In the girls' race, Reece Ewoldt led BHS. She was 23rd in 21:04.95, while Allie Czapla was 36th in 21:44.28.
“The girls competition was so stiff this year,” Norine said. “In the past few years, we’ve had girls run those same times and get top 15, and this year that wasn’t the case.”
Addie Sullivan (66th), Bella Matzen (74th), Nadia Davey (76th) and Chloe Schrick (84th) also completed the 5-kilometer course for the Bears.
“Every boy and 11 out of 13 girls ran their (personal record) on the course today, which was amazing,” Norine said. “They felt fresh and ran well.”
BHS was scheduled to compete at the University of Nebraska-Kearney High School Invitational on Monday and next runs 4 p.m. Thursday at Boys Town.
