Wederquist Field's first game was rained out, but Blair Little League was still able to celebrate the start of baseball season Saturday with its Opening Ceremony.
Thirty-one teams of 352 area kids had their pictures taken by local photographer Michael Dwyer at the Youth Sports Complex. The ballplayers, ages 4-14 years old, were dressed in colorful jerseys with ballcaps on their heads and moms, dads and grandparents all able to see them.
Special guests Judy Wederquist, Kyle Wederquist, Fred Aman, Bill Hardy and Blair Mayor Rich Hansen celebrated with the youngsters, too.
“It is wonderful to have had you here, and (to) continue to celebrate Lynn Wederquist and what he means to this community and our League,” Blair Little League posted on its Facebook page. “We thank you for all the years of dedication to our community, and starting these beautiful fields that the Blair Little League gets to call home.”
Though the season-opening game and Blair Optimist's Pitch, Hit & Run event were unable to take place, the Little League season was scheduled to get its true start Monday. T-ball, coach pitch, Rookie, Minor, Major and Pony games will now be played Monday through Thursday each week through June.
