New Blair High School volleyball coach Jess Lansman is also a brand-new professional player with the Omaha Supernovas.
Announced as the Bears' head coach in November, the former Iowa State All-Big 12 first-teamer and honorable mention All-American also signed with Omaha's new Pro Volleyball Federation team in 2023. The recent IGHSAU Volleyball Hall of Fame inductee officially made the opening day roster recently, though, confirming the news broken by reporter Lincoln Arneal to Enterprise Media Group by text.
“Yes, it is true!” Lansman wrote.
The Supernovas officially opened their debut season Wednesday against the Atlanta Vibe at the CHI Health Center. Coached by Shelton Collier, Omaha next hosts the San Diego Mojo on Feb. 3. The season continues through May 12 with 10 more home dates on the schedule.
Lansman, who also played beach volleyball at LSU before becoming an assistant coach at Blair in 2022, is joined on the Supernovas roster by former Nebraska Cornhusker Gina Mancuso-Prososki as well as number of players with major college and Olympic experience.
“Omaha enters the inaugural season as the preseason favorites, as revealed in the Pro Volleyball Federation preseason poll which was voted on by every head coach in the league,” a recent Supernovas release stated. “Supernovas outside hitter Bethania de la Cruz was voted to the preseason All-League team as well.”
