Three baseball games involving teams from Washington County were scheduled for Friday, but just one was played.
The Fort Calhoun Pioneers hosted and lost to Platteview after a damp afternoon, 8-4. Coach Roy Prauner's team was within 3-2 after five innings, but surrendered five runs during the top of the sixth to drop to 5-14 this season.
FCHS trailed 3-0 when Avery Quinlan scored the home team's first run, too. He walked to lead off the bottom of the third inning, took second and moved to third base on a groundout before racing home on a passed ball.
Quinlan scored the Pioneers' second run as well. He walked again during the bottom of the fifth frame, reaching second base on another Trojans pitching miscue. Ty Hallberg then hit a ball between the third baseman and shortstop, plating the base runner to pull Calhoun within one run.
Platteview then notched its five-run inning, though the Pioneers responded with Zach Faucher and Austin Welchert scoring runs when a Carter Christensen swing led to a Trojan error.
Still trailing 8-4, Sam Genoways notched a seventh-inning single, but FCHS was unable to muster any more offense in defeat. Zach Faucher, Alex Christensen and Levi Lasher all pitched for the Pioneers.
Fort Calhoun was scheduled to play its regular season finale Monday and next competes 7 p.m. Thursday during the first round of the Class B Subdistrict 4 Tournament at Elkhorn North. The Pioneers' opponent is third-seeded Wahoo/Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran.

Blair's Friday evening game at Douglas County West was the first Washington County game called off.
The City Park field in Valley was too wet for competition, so the Bears' season record held at 7-9. They are to host Wahoo/Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. today before the Class B Subdistrict 1 Tournament on Thursday. Coach James Bilslend's fifth-seeded team plays No. 4 Arlington at noon on the Hickman City Park field.
