Ash Wednesday started the 2021 Lenten season in the Catholic church this week.
Father Damien Wee distributed ashes to individuals during Mass on Wednesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. This year, many walked up to receive the ashes wearing masks, whereas Ash Wednesday 2020 was before the coronavirus pandemic took hold.
"We are very thankful that many people having been returning to church for Mass," Wee said. "Two weeks ago, we had our largest attendance since the start of COVID-19 for the three weekend Masses. We hope that more will continue to return and what a great opportunity to do that with the start of the Lenten season."
