Posted

Arlene Dorothy Hass Rasmussen Stork passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Dec. 20, with her daughter Cheryl at her side. Arlene lived a full and wonderful life. Arlene was born in a midwife’s home at Winslow Nebraska on May 8, 1928 to Paul and Anna Hass. Arlene lived at several farms and towns in eastern Nebraska.

In her youth, Arlene rode a Shetland pony to school. She heard of the attack on Pearl Harbor upon returning home from a birthday party. As her contribution to the war effort, Arlene knitted helmet liners for the troops. Her sisters – Lois and Jeanette – were born in Blair in 1938 and 1943, respectively. Arlene graduated from Blair High School in 1946 and married Gene Rasmussen in August 1947. Arlene and Gene moved to Colorado for a short-time but soon came back to Nebraska and started farming north of Kennard. To this union, one child, Cheryl Ann, was born in 1957.

Arlene worked as a printer and bookkeeper at several offices in Blair, Fremont and Hastings. She was very active in Federated Women’s Club, 4-H Clubs and Extension Clubs; usually in charge of scrapbooks, decorations – anything creative. Arlene was a gifted artist/crafter/seamstress; she was always working on a project, making it unique. In April of 1969, Gene passed away from complications due to diabetes. Arlene married Walter Stork in December 1970. They shared their love of camping, travel, square dancing and doing everything together until his death in September 2003. She was known by many people as fun, extroverted, energetic — ready to do anything. She taught the Nye Square card playing crowd a new card game that has become a regular, weekly event.

Family mourning the loss of Arlene are her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Kevin Dunbar; grandsons: Jay Dunbar, Dan Dunbar, and Tom (Laura) Dunbar; great grandchildren: Ethan Dunbar, Aiden Dunbar, Della Dunbar and unborn baby Dunbar; sister, Lois Jorgensen; brothers-in-law Eldon Stork and James Andreasen and many nieces and nephews.
