A major step forward was made in the future Easterseals respite camp at the former Dana College campus.

On Dec. 29, Angels Share, owner of the Dana campus property, sold 65 acres to of the campus to Easterseals, according to Angels Share president Ed Shada. Shada said the property ranges from Black Elk Neihardt Park down to farmland near Highway 91. The land includes Gardner-Hawks Hall and Rasmussen and Hollings Halls.

In June, James Summerfelt, president and CEO of Easterseals Nebraska, said Easterseals Nebraska, would use the property for its respite camp, which began in Milford. The project would include 20 cabins, horse stables for equine therapy, a lake, a welcome lodge, splash pad, aquatic center, ropes course and other recreational features. He said the array of features would allow campers to participate in activities they otherwise would not be able to in their day to day lives.

With the land acquired, Easterseals can now begin construction.

“It is an exciting time,” Shada said.
