Eagles finish 14th out of 16 teams

The Arlington High School boys golf season ended Monday at the conclusion of the Class C District 2 Tournament at Indian Trails County Club near Beemer.
Coach Landon Walkenhorst's Eagles battled the elements and finished with 469 strokes across 18 holes.
“The conditions were brutal. Constant rain and wind affected a lot of shots,” the coach said. “But, the big thing is that everyone is playing in these conditions. It was a lot of clubbing up and playing the course strategically.”
AHS was 14th out of 16 teams with Fremont Bergan, Logan View and Oakland-Craig claiming state qualifications in first through third, respectively. The Knights earned the tournament title, finishing with just 323 swings.
Winston Slykhuis, meanwhile, carded 112 by himself to lead the Eagles. It was far from his best result of the spring, but he still put together a strong overall campaign in Walkenhorst's eyes.
“Winston played really well this season,” the coach said. “Once he got the ball rolling and was consistently shooting under 100, you could see the confidence sky rocket. It was fun to see him grow in his golf game.”
It wasn't just him, Walkenhorst continued, but the whole team.
Recent graduate Schuyler Logemann finished with 113 strokes for Arlington on Monday, while Jack Rosenbalm had 120 and Hunter Wallace carded 124. Trenton Hansen finished with an 18-hole 143, too.
“We battled a lot this season with inexperience,” Walkenhorst said. “But I'm proud of each and every one of them for constantly showing up and getting better day-in and day-out.”
Class C state golf is next Wednesday and Thursday in Grand Island, but Arlington's season concluded Monday at Indian Trails Country Club.
