It’s a holiday weekend, so I’m keeping this brief.
But, make no mistake, Hailey O’Daniel, Preston Johnson and Reece Ewoldt earned every bit of their Nannen & Harte Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week status.

Here’s how.

Hailey O’Daniel, Arlington cross-country: Nolan May and O’Daniel both won their season-opening 5-kilometer races at Omaha Concordia. O’Daniel gets the Athlete of the Week nod, though, because she won her race by the wider margin. She clocked in at 21:49.62.

Preston Johnson, Fort Calhoun football: The Pioneers couldn’t quite pull off the comeback Friday, but Johnson got them close when he hauled in Adam Elofson’s 47 yard pass for a third-quarter touchdown. Unofficially, the receiver finished with five catches and 85 yards.

Reece Ewoldt, Blair cross-country: The Bear led her cross-country team to a first-meet victory in Plattsmouth, winning her 5K race with a time of 20:18.67. She put in more than 400 miles worth of runs this summer to do it.
