The stakes are high in high school sports at the moment and Washington County athletes are seemingly raising their game.
This week, I’ve selected Ryleigh Schroeter, Grayson Bouwman and Tanner Kyllo as my Nannen & Harte Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week. Read on to see what they’ve been up to.

Ryleigh Schroeter, Fremont swimming: The Blair High School student-athlete excelled in the pool with her fellow Tigers in what was a brilliant week for the Bears. Special mention goes to Sophia Which — who hit a buzzer-beater in hoops — and Jesse Loges — who won his wrestling district — but I selected the swimmer. The sophomore was second during the Heartland Athletic Conference meet in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke. Both times were under a minute in a tough conference against the state’s top opposition.

Grayson Bouwman, Fort Calhoun basketball: The junior guard averaged 23 points per game across three Pioneer wins last week. He hit a school record 20 free throws against Nebraska City, too, as his team’s winning streak sits at five games.

Tanner Kyllo, Arlington wrestling: The freshman Eagle overcame a disappointing loss in the semifinals to come back and earn a state tournament berth with a first-period pin in the heartbreak round. He’ll start state competition Thursday with a 21-9 season record.
